~ About Nuv Yug ~

The Hindi phrase "Nuv Yug" means "new era" or "new generation".

Nuv Yug is a non-profit tax-exempt public charity with a mission to promote awareness of Indian Cultural Arts. Over the years, Nuv Yug has developed a reputation for producing high quality programs that offer a unique cultural exchange opportunity to citizens of Raleigh and surrounding areas.

Since 2003, our flagship event Nuv Yug India Fest has been organized with support from City of Raleigh Arts Commission and many other organizations and individuals. Raleigh's India Fest attracts over 1,500 stage performers, who present almost 150 dance and music items during the festival. During the weekend, traditional crafts vendors from New York, Chicago and Florida in addition to many local vendors showcase unbelievable crafts from India. And, area\'s top restaurants offer famous Indian delicacies to visitors.

Nuv Yug's objective is to enhance the quality of life of local residents and utilize its platform to support people in need.


~ Mission ~

  • Preserve and promote Indian cultural arts by producing programs of high artistic merit that entertain and educate.
  • Reach out to people from diverse ethnic background to increase awareness of Indian cultural arts and build strong community ties.
  • Provide support to improve the lives of underprivileged and distressed people.

Since 2015, the Charlotte team has been hosting Nuv Yug India Fest as well. In 2019, for the fifth time over 1,000 performers and several thousand visitors attended the festivities in Charlotte.

About Team Members

Pritika De

Pritika De

Pritika holds dual Masters degrees in Special Education & Social Work. She has lived and worked in many cities across India and has experienced numerous cultures and art forms. She has a deep appreciation of the inherent diversity in the performing arts.

Pritika comes from an artistic family of renowned Tabla player and Musicologist, Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh of the Farukhabaad Gharana. She started her training in dance (Bharatnatyam) at a very early age and has a Diploma with distinction from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. She is also an active proponent of other dance forms like Bollywood, Indo Jazz and Hip Hop. She is passionate about the positive value art brings in the lives of children and adults alike, brought about from an exchange of ideas and cultures.

Pritika has been volunteering under various capacities at Nuv Yug for several years. After moving to Charlotte, she has successfully spearheaded Nuv Yug's effort to start a grass roots movement for a new festival in Charlotte. She serves as a Vice President on Nuv Yug's Board of Directors and as President of the Charlotte Chapter.

Sunil Mulakkal

Sunil MulakkalSunil worked as an IT professional in Hyderabad and Bangalore after earning a Computer Science Engineering degree from an Indian University. He moved to Michigan from India in 1997 and relocated to Charlotte in 2000 and has been living there since then.

Sunil loves collaborating with enthusiastic individuals in promoting the rich and diverse Indian culture. He is very impressed with the solid foundation Nuv Yug has established in providing a platform for the youth to showcase various Indian dance forms and music.

Sunil has been a member of the Nuv Yug's Charlotte team since 2015.

Karuna Annavajjala

Karuna AnnavajjalaKaruna is a resident of Charlotte for over five years and has been involved with NuvYug since 2017. Karuna, her husband and her teenage daughter actively volunteer across multiple non-profits focused on STEM for girls and access to education for children in underprivileged communities. Currently, she is a technology executive at AIG. Karuna has a Masters in Computer Science from West Virginia University and MBA from University of Michigan. Her daughter learns Bharatnatyam and has actively performed at local cultural events.

She joined the Charlotte Nuv Yug team in 2016.

Sonia Jain

Sonia JainSonia grew up in Lucknow, India and holds Masters in Economics and Finance. She was fortunate to be given opportunity to learn different dance styles and used to represent her state in dance competitions. She has lived in various cities of USA and moved to Charlotte in 2001 with her husband and son. She loves life and is full of energy and enthusiasm. Her passion for dance has passed on to her son, who represents his college in a nationally renowned Bhangra team.

She joined the Charlotte Nuv Yug team in 2016.

Vikas Jain

Vikas JainVikas grew up in Bombay, India. He is an IT professional with MBA and Engineering degree. He has lived in various cities of USA and moved to Charlotte in 2001. He is passionate about use of technology to solve business and social problems. He enjoys traveling and visiting different countries to learn different culture.

He joined the Charlotte Nuv Yug team in 2017.

Shilpa Mulabagal

Shilpa MulabagalShilpa grew up in royal city of Mysuru - a city rich in cultural heritage. She has a Masters degree in Computer Application.

Shilpa lives in Charlotte with her husband and children. Her family's love towards music and dance of various kinds has kept them actively involved in the community. She enjoys the bollywood style of dancing and has performed, volunteered and choreographed in various events.

Her passion for the arts and a desire to encourage young minds to carry on our rich heritage encouraged her to join the team, as Nuv Yug provides a great platform and vibrant atmosphere to all.

Niketa Mittal

Niketa MittalNiketa is a HR Professional and holds a Master’s degree in International business. She is a social activist and deeply involved with various non-profit organizations in the Charlotte area. Her inspiration to join NUV YUG team is the passion to continue to create awareness about culture and values in the society, especially among the youth.

She strongly believes ”It is not important how many people you connect with but the relationship equity”

Niketa joined the NUV YUG team in 2017.

Padma Nunna

Padma NunnaPadma, a resident of Charlotte for over a decade, is an engaged Asian American community leader. She volunteers her time across not for profit organizations in Education, Arts and Culture, Economic development of the area as well as global organizations. She was instrumental in launching the debut Nuv Yug event in Charlotte in 2015 and continues to support the core team in various capacities. She strongly believes in shaping future generations by exposing them to various cultural experiences in the community. She is an active member of the Engage Employee Resource group at TIAA and serves a leadership role in Individual Business Transformation.

She holds an MBA from WakeForest, Masters in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M. She is married and mom of teen and toddler girls who keep her on her toes. She pursues her drive of making a small difference to impact the community for growth and development with support from her family.

She joined the Charlotte Nuv Yug team in 2014.

Renu Singh

Renu SinghRenu grew up in North India and worked in major corporations before moving to USA. She has an MBA and has worked in IT department of Banking Sector for a decade. She is very passionate about performing arts, especially Music; Classical Dance and Arts & Crafts that keep her connected to Indian roots, heritage and cultural diversities. Through Kala Kendra in India, she has helped the community by providing free educational and artistic activities for under-privileged children and has participated in exhibition at state and national levels. In the USA, her artworks have received many recognitions from local Art & Craft Exhibitions. She actively volunteers at local events to share the rich cultural values and artistic skills with the community.

Renu volunteered at Nuv Yug 2017 to initiate the Arts & Crafts booth to help provide a creative platform for children to learn and express their artistic talents. Through Nuv Yug‘s diverse cultural platform, she aspires to be able to contribute her skills to serving the common goals of the Nuv Yug team.

Sheela Singhvi

Sheela SinghviSheela is a Charterd Accountant and CPA by profession and pursues dance as passion. Brought up in the heart of India - Mumbai, she started learning dance at an early age of 4. She is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, choreographs and performs Bollywood, folk, fusion and other dance forms. She has lived in Charlotte since 2005 and actively promoted, participated and volunteered in various community and cultural events.

She is a strong believer that art and culture brings the communities and the world together.

She joined the Charlotte Nuv Yug team in 2016.
